Linda's Family Tree
Hi! My name is Linda and I want to welcome you to my home!
Grab a cup of coffee, have a seat and let's visit for a spell...
First thing I should probably tell you is that I am passionate about genealogy. Since you are visiting my page I am assuming you are also interested in genealogy and family history. Whether you are a newbie to the subject, or are a seasoned veteran, I hope that you will find something on my pages that will interest you.

maybe early 1990's?
Pictures of me, my mom and dad, and his mom, these are part of my roots.
I was born in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, after moving around a number of times in my adult life I now make my home in the Northeast corner of California in Modoc County (when looking at a map I am up in the corner near both Oregon and Nevada). Alturas is up in the mountains at 4300 ft and our climate is considered High Desert. Hot and dry in the summer, cold and snow in the winter.
Even though I wasn't born here my roots go deep. My mother, and her father were both born in this small rural town. His mother moved to this town when she was a child and his father moved here as a young man. We also have connections to the founding families of Modoc County.
One of the tools that I have been able to use that were not available to my mother or grandmother is the relatively new science of using DNA to discover our genetic cousins. I have tested on Ancestry, 23andMe, and I have transferred my DNA to Family Tree DNA as well as Gedmatch. It has helped me find new cousins and verify the paper research on several lines.
I hope that both my mom and my grandmother are proud that I have continued in their footsteps looking for our family and trying to tell our family's stories. Come along on the journey of discovery as we help each other discover where we come from!
It seems I have always had an interest in knowing who my family was. As a child I would write down the names of my grandparents, my aunts, my uncles and my cousins. But I didn't know how to find out anything beyond that until the mid 1990's when my mother started researching her family by going to the Family History Center in Oakland, Ca; the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in San Bruno, Ca; and the Sutro Library (the San Francisco Branch of the California State Library). I started going with her in 1995. With trial and error and lots of reading I gradually learned how to use the various records available to research my family.
When my mom died in 1997 I inherited her research and have been continuing the search off and on for the last 19 years. I recently found out that not only was my mother interested in discovering her roots, but my paternal grandmother was also interested in genealogy. A few years ago my paternal Aunt Gladys told me that her mother had also done research on her family and when she would find something would call up my aunt all excited about her most recent find. My grandmother died in 1968 just as I was turning 10. I wish I had the opportunity to go back and ask her about her discoveries and share with her what I have managed to find.
